Description
Kashmiri Chitra Pepper is a distinctive variety — the spotted appearance (chitra means spotted) reflects the specific cultivar characteristics of this mountain-grown pepper. Like Kashmiri shahi zeera and green elaichi, the high-altitude growing conditions of Kashmir produce a pepper with higher essential oil content and more complex flavour than plains-grown commercial varieties.
The flavour is bold, pungent, and complex — with the characteristic pepper heat alongside aromatic notes that add depth rather than just fire. Used whole in biryanis and slow-cooked dishes, or freshly ground as a finishing pepper, it consistently elevates whatever it is added to.
Piperine — the primary bioactive compound — enhances the bioavailability of other nutrients dramatically, including curcumin in turmeric by up to 2000%. This makes freshly ground Kashmiri Chitra Pepper not just a flavour addition but a meaningful nutritional enhancement to every meal it accompanies.
